2007 Circular Prints

This series of prints reflects Jessica’s interest in the powerful archetype of the circle. The circle can be viewed as a symbol of the cycle of life, beginning with a single cell, egg, birth, life, death, and then ending with a cell. The “circle of life” in Buddhist ideology represents the different stages of the human soul or spirit as it moves through lifetimes in the different realms of existence. Karma is significant in how it perpetuates the continuation of the circle, of the cycle, which holds the spirit in a never ending “circle of desire”. Only when the spirit breaks free of this cycle of grasping, does it attain nirvana, peace, emptiness, or real death (if there is only one lifetime). These are singular, unique prints, created using circular shaped copper plate etchings and Plexiglas.
